Kyiv police have charged a plastic surgeon following a tragic incident involving a patient. A 28-year-old woman suffered a cardiac arrest due to improperly prepared anesthetic. Investigators found that the doctor miscalculated the drug's composition, leading to the woman's death.
In the summer of 2023, during a plastic surgery operation in a medical center in the capital, the surgeon failed to perform his duties properly, breaching medical protocols and instructions.
As a result of the incorrectly prepared anesthetic, the patient experienced a cardiac arrest during a buttock implant surgery. Despite resuscitation efforts, the young woman's life could not be saved.
A forensic examination revealed that the anesthetic used contained a therapeutic dose of the drug that was three times higher than permissible, resulting in the patient's death. Furthermore, the drug should not have been used by the doctor and was not recorded in the medical documentation.
Investigators, under the supervision of the Kyiv city prosecutor's office, have charged the 50-year-old man under Part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for improper performance of medical duties with serious consequences for the patient.
The penalty for this article can include imprisonment for up to two years along with a prohibition on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to five years.
