Today at around 08:00, a tragic road accident took place in Kyiv, leading to the death of a pedestrian. Police investigators have detained a 56-year-old driver of a Volkswagen who, while driving in the first lane, entered a pedestrian crossing on a yellow traffic signal. At that moment, a man was crossing the road, and unfortunately, he was struck by the vehicle. The pedestrian died at the scene. Preliminary checks indicated that the driver was sober. He has been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators have initiated a criminal case under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses violations of traffic safety rules that result in the death of a victim, carrying a penalty of three to eight years in prison.
