In Ukraine, an attempt to illegally cross the border nearly ended in tragedy for two men from Mykolaiv region.
"Thanks to the prompt actions of border guards from the 'Bohdan' division and rescuers, the 'adventurers' were saved," the State Border Guard Service reported.
During a border monitoring flight, a helicopter crew spotted two individuals in the area of Mount Klifa. One was waving his arms and calling for help, while the other lay motionless.
A border patrol was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the men in a state of severe exhaustion and showing signs of hypothermia. Without proper gear and unfamiliar with the mountainous terrain, the men quickly got lost and desperately tried to find mobile reception. During this "hike," one of them seriously injured his eye and was unable to move due to the pain.
The border guards provided first aid, warmed them up, and handed them over to a medical team.
The travelers admitted they had charted a route to Romania on their own and hoped to cross the border illegally. They were held administratively accountable under part 2 of Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.
The State Border Guard Service once again reminds that attempts to illegally cross the border are not only violations of the law but also a deadly adventure, especially in mountainous areas.
