The perpetrator set up a network of fake social media profiles, impersonating a «healer» and offering citizens various rituals: from removing «curses» to searching for missing persons. Prices ranged from 400 to 4,500 hryvnias depending on the «complexity» of the task. He faces up to eight years in prison.
The fraud scheme was uncovered by detectives from the Dnipro Police Department in collaboration with cybercrime specialists, under the supervision of the Dnipro District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv. The investigation revealed that a 28-year-old resident of Kyiv devised a scheme to swindle money: he created accounts on popular social networks, pretending to be a «shaman» while communicating with «clients» and providing «services» such as supposedly removing «curses», searching for missing individuals, and conducting «healing rituals».
He priced these «services» from 400 to 4,500 hryvnias. Once the money was deposited into his bank account, the fraudster ceased all communication with the clients and blocked them on social media.
Currently, police have documented 7 episodes of fraud committed by the suspect. Efforts are ongoing to identify other victims.
Investigators have notified the offender of suspicion under part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – fraud. The sanctions for this article can lead to a maximum of eight years of imprisonment.
Kyiv police warn about dangerous criminal schemes and urge citizens to be cautious, and to report any instances of fraud or illegal activities to the police.
