Authorities have apprehended a Kyiv resident who made a false report about a bomb threat at an administrative building, and he is now facing charges. His "joke" has resulted in real consequences.
In July of this year, the Kyiv police received an anonymous call from a man claiming that explosives had been planted in the building of the Darnytsia District Court.
A response team, including investigators and bomb disposal experts, quickly arrived and conducted a thorough search of the premises and surrounding area. Fortunately, no dangerous items were found.
The police were able to identify the individual responsible for the false report and took him into custody. The suspect was a 36-year-old man with a prior criminal record for drug offenses. He was unable to explain his motives.
Investigators charged him under Part 1 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for knowingly making a false report about an impending explosion that could endanger lives.
Currently, based on the evidence presented, the Darnytsia District Court found him guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison.
