The Security Service of Ukraine successfully thwarted two terrorist attacks that Russian intelligence agencies attempted to carry out in Lviv.
Thanks to proactive measures, Ukrainian soldiers were saved from being remotely detonated by improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
To lure the military into the planned attack sites, the enemy used a deceitful «dating invitation» tactic.
Russian operatives created fake female profiles on a popular social network to connect with potential «targets».
As a result, two defense forces soldiers separately received «invitations» to meet at locations where explosives were planted.
SBU cyber specialists uncovered the enemy's plot in advance, neutralizing the IEDs and protecting the Ukrainian defenders.
It is also worth noting that earlier this summer, in Kyiv, SBU counterintelligence prevented a similar assassination attempt on a National Guard soldier. The aggressors attempted to detonate an explosive hidden in a scooter.
During the investigation, a 19-year-old Kyiv resident was arrested for planting explosives in the vehicle. It was established that the occupiers recruited him through thematic Telegram channels looking for «easy money» opportunities.
Investigative actions are ongoing to hold all responsible parties accountable. Comprehensive measures were undertaken by SBU staff in Kyiv and the Lviv region in collaboration with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
