The Security Service of Ukraine has identified an FSB agent within one of the country's leading energy companies. Following comprehensive operations in Kyiv region, an IT specialist was arrested for orchestrating attacks by Russia on the region's critical infrastructure.
Investigations revealed that the agent intended to leak the coordinates of underground data backup centers belonging to his company.
These technological facilities are vital for the uninterrupted functioning of Ukraine's energy system.
The enemy also aimed to obtain geolocations of gas turbine generators set up to provide alternative energy supplies to Kyiv residents in case of damage to the capital's electrical substations.
The SBU successfully uncovered the Russian agent in time, documented his criminal activities, and apprehended him.
During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the enemy was seized.
According to case materials, the agent received instructions from the FSB through a relative who previously led a banned pro-Kremlin party in Ukraine and now collaborates with Russian special services on the left bank of Kherson region. In September 2022, this relative received an in absentia suspicion of state treason from the Security Service investigators.
Based on the gathered evidence, the SBU informed the energy company official of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).
The wrongdoer is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation. Comprehensive measures were conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
