In the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, police apprehended a young man who set fire to a vehicle under the instructions of enemy intelligence. Mistaking the vehicle for military transport, he was promised $2000; however, he never received the payment. Authorities swiftly detained the perpetrator, who now faces up to ten years in prison.
Recently, the police received a report of a Ford vehicle fire in the Solomianskyi district. Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene to extinguish the blaze, while investigators documented the crime.
Investigators determined that the vehicle was ignited using flammable liquid, and during the search operations, they identified the arsonist as a 22-year-old local resident living nearby.
It was revealed that the man received instructions via messenger from a handler in the aggressor country to set vehicles on fire for money. Tempted by easy earnings, he agreed to commit the crime, believing the vehicle belonged to a military personnel. However, the promised funds never materialized.
The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and prosecutors informed him of the charges under Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for willful damage to property by fire. The penalty for this offense can reach ten years of imprisonment.
