In Kyiv’s Obolon district, a location for growing narcotic plants was uncovered in a garage. During the search, law enforcement officials seized 5 kilograms of ready-to-sell products, valued at approximately one million hryvnias on the black market.
Investigators, in collaboration with the police and prosecutor’s office, uncovered an interregional group involved in the cultivation and sale of cannabis at railway stations in Kyiv.
The suspects turned out to be two 37-year-old men. One of them rented the garage where a space was specially equipped for cannabis cultivation; subsequently, the criminals processed and sold it via postal shipments across the country. They also produced cookies containing the narcotic substance for sale.
It was established that payments were made cashless, and customers were found through word-of-mouth referrals. The estimated income from their illegal activities was around 500,000 hryvnias per month.
During searches at their residences and in the garage, 5 kilograms of cannabis, 36 plants, seeds, cookies containing tetrahydrocannabinol, laboratory equipment, drip irrigation systems, and lighting were confiscated. Additionally, law enforcement seized two cars, mobile phones, a laptop, and handwritten notes from the suspects. The value of the seized narcotic 'goods' on the black market is estimated to be about one million hryvnias.
Investigators have charged the suspects under part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court has placed one of them in custody, while the other is under house arrest. In total, the suspects face up to ten years of imprisonment with asset forfeiture.
