The Security Service of Ukraine has unveiled a new espionage network in Kherson that was involved in adjusting enemy artillery strikes against Ukrainian forces.
As a result of coordinated actions, law enforcement detained a 65-year-old local man who was collaborating with the occupiers.
It was discovered that the main task of the detainee was to identify weapons and equipment depots of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Additionally, he attempted to locate bases of operational groups active on the southern front.
To gather information, the agent traveled around the area in his car, documenting suspicious objects.
During these reconnaissance missions, he also monitored the movement of military equipment.
The agent sought to extract information from volunteers under the pretense of casual conversations.
The intelligence he gathered was passed on to an acquaintance who collaborated with the FSB after the region was captured.
This woman acted as a coordinator, searching for and recruiting new agents in the area.
The SBU successfully neutralized this group, documenting their crimes and securing Ukrainian positions.
During a search, five smartphones were found in the possession of the detainee, used for communication.
Investigators informed him of the suspicion of treason under wartime conditions.
The perpetrator is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment.
There are also plans to announce suspicion against another individual who is hiding in occupied territories.
The operation was conducted in cooperation with military counterintelligence and under the supervision of the prosecution.
