The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine has arrested another spy in the Donetsk region who was providing enemy forces with information about the positions of Ukrainian troops. His primary task was to locate and transmit data regarding repair sites for equipment damaged during combat in the Kramatorsk area.
According to the investigation, a 37-year-old man working at a local factory came under the attention of Russian special services due to his brother living in russia and collaborating with the occupiers.
After being recruited, he began photographing the premises of his enterprise where heavy military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was being repaired. He took these pictures during work shifts while fulfilling defense contracts.
The acquired photographs with geolocations were to be sent to his handler via an anonymous messenger.
The Russian forces intended to use this information for new strikes.
The SBU acted preemptively, preventing the leak of data regarding defense capabilities in the frontline region.
The arrested spy had a smartphone that he used to photograph repair facilities and communicate with his FSB handler.
Investigators informed him of the suspicion under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed in a state of war).
The perpetrator is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
The operations were conducted by SBU employees in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
