Counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine have identified and arrested another Russian agent in the Kharkiv region. The suspect is a 48-year-old installation engineer from a local branch of the Ukrainian Railways, who, under orders from the FSB, was monitoring military convoys.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect gathered intelligence while repairing railway tracks in border areas. He covertly observed the movements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The enemy was particularly interested in the quantity, routes, and types of weapons heading towards the front.
Additionally, during work trips, the agent recorded the locations of Ukrainian defensive positions on Google Maps.
The collected information was transmitted to his handler via messenger, whose identity has been established.
It is known that the occupiers planned to use this intelligence for preparing new bombing and drone strikes on the border areas of Kharkiv.
The SBU documented the agent's criminal activities and detained him at the initial stage of his operations.
It has been established that the railway worker came under the radar of Russian special services due to his anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram channels.
During searches at the suspect's residence, a smartphone with an anonymous chat used for communication with the FSB was found.
SBU investigators have informed the agent of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The offender is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
SBU employees conducted comprehensive measures under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
