A man has been arrested in the capital of Ukraine for attempting to kill a rival out of jealousy over his wife. The couple had not been living together for a long time, but they were not officially divorced. Upon unexpectedly seeing his wife with another man, he became distraught and stabbed the victim in the chest. He now faces up to 15 years in prison for his actions.

The police received a report of a man with a stab wound sitting on the street of Danilo Shcherbakivskyi. An investigative team and criminal investigators arrived at the scene. The victim was hospitalized and received medical assistance, and his life is currently not in danger.

According to the head of the Shevchenkivskyi police department, Ihor Padiuk, the police quickly identified the attacker and arrested him at his residence under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine:

«We established that a 30-year-old man came to his wife’s place, with whom he does not live and has not yet divorced, and saw her with another man. In despair, he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the 32-year-old victim in the chest».

Currently, investigators under the procedural guidance of the Shevchenkivskyi district prosecutor’s office have notified the suspect of his charges under part 2 of Article 15 and part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – attempted intentional murder. For committing this particularly serious crime, the man faces up to 15 years in prison.
