According to the DBR, the Office of the Prosecutor General has charged three NABU employees who were involved in traffic accidents with injuries.
In the first accident, an officer, while exiting a secondary road in Kyiv, collided with a vehicle traveling on the main road. As a result of the collision, the law enforcement vehicle veered off the road and struck an unsuspecting pedestrian. The man suffered serious injuries leading to the amputation of his left leg.
In a second incident, while overtaking a vehicle on the 61st kilometer of the Kyiv-Odessa highway, the officer failed to maintain a safe speed and left the roadway, resulting in the vehicle overturning and crashing into a gas station building. The passenger in the vehicle sustained severe injuries, including multiple fractures and a concussion.
In the third case, while driving a service vehicle at a controlled intersection in Kyiv, the officer hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road on a green light. The pedestrian sustained moderate injuries from the impact.
Following the preliminary investigation, all three individuals have been charged with violating traffic safety regulations, which resulted in moderate and severe injuries to victims (Part 2 of Article 286 and Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Currently, the question of preventive measures for the suspects is being resolved. The prosecution will seek to detain at least two of them.
If proven guilty, the officers face up to 8 years in prison for their serious offenses.
The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office and the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office are overseeing the process.
