A horrifying incident has occurred in the Rivne region where a man violently attacked his wife.

The attacker suffered severe burns himself. Medical professionals at the Rivne Regional Clinical Hospital are fighting to save the woman's life.

The tragedy took place on July 19 around 21:30 in the village of Shubkiv. A 44-year-old local man picked up his wife from work in a «VAZ 2107» car. During the ride, a quarrel ensued between the couple over jealousy, leading to devastating consequences.

The man doused both himself and his wife with gasoline before setting them on fire. The woman managed to escape the vehicle and extinguished the flames by jumping into a puddle. She then made her way to the road, where neighbors spotted her and called for help.

Medical personnel diagnosed her with 70% body burns and urgently hospitalized her in intensive care.

The 44-year-old aggressor was also taken to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

The police are investigating the attempted murder committed with exceptional cruelty under Article 15, part 4 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
