Currently, all members of the criminal group are in custody. They face up to twelve years in prison along with asset confiscation.
During the preliminary investigation, law enforcement discovered that the mastermind of the theft is a 46-year-old resident of the capital, previously convicted of murder. He recruited three accomplices: a 51-year-old from the Kyiv region and two Kyiv residents aged 36 and 43.
Investigators found that the criminals had been developing a scheme to seize money for a year and were tracking the vehicle's route. Knowing that cash was stored in the trunk for some time, they had previously cut a hole in the trunk and pulled out a string to access the currency unobstructedly.
On the day of the crime, they blocked the office doors of the currency exchange and stole a bag containing 8 million hryvnias and 165 thousand euros – a total of about 15 million hryvnias.
At that time, operatives from the Holosiivskyi Police Department, along with detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department, apprehended the organizer of the scheme, who was informed of the charges by investigators. Currently, under the procedural guidance of the Holosiivskyi District Prosecutor's Office, investigators have charged three more group members under Part 5 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – theft committed by a group of persons in conspiracy, combined with entry into a storage facility in particularly large amounts.
The Holosiivskyi District Court has imposed preventive measures in the form of detention for all suspects. The bail amount for the organizer is set at 9 million hryvnias, while for the executors, it ranges from 3 to 5 million hryvnias. The criminals face up to twelve years in prison with asset confiscation.
