In the Obukhiv region, a 57-year-old man poured a flammable substance on his relatives and set them on fire during a conflict. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
On July 13, around 21:12, police received a call from medics reporting that a man and a woman had suffered burns in the yard of a house in Vasylkiv.
Authorities established that a dispute had arisen between the suspect and his 54-year-old brother. Their mother intervened to protect her younger son, but in retaliation, the suspect grabbed a bottle of flammable liquid, doused his relatives, and ignited them with a lighter. Afterward, he fled the scene.
The victims were taken to a medical facility, where doctors diagnosed burns of varying degrees on both the woman and her son. Unfortunately, the 76-year-old woman later died in the hospital due to her injuries.
Law enforcement collected physical evidence for further examinations.
Following a series of operational searches, the police apprehended the suspect under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and delivered him to a detention facility.
Investigators, under the supervision of the Obukhiv District Prosecutor's Office, informed the suspect of his charges (part 2 of Article 15, paragraph 1 of part 2 of Article 115, and part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
