Starting May 1, NATO experts will commence an institutional audit of the higher military educational institutions within the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense system.
If the results are positive, this will pave the way for the recognition of Ukrainian military diplomas in NATO countries, as reported by the Ministry of Defense.
NATO Audit: A Step Towards Integrating Ukraine's Military Education into the Alliance
“The results of the institutional audit of the military education system will provide an objective assessment of the progress in implementing the recommendations made following the 2020 audit.
Professional military education in Ukraine is gradually reaching a qualitatively new level of development,” stated the Director of the Military Education and Science Department of the Ministry of Defense, Volodymyr Mirnenko.
Successfully passing the audit by NATO specialists will allow for the certification of professional military education courses according to Alliance standards.
Moreover, certificates from these courses will be recognized by NATO member states, enhancing the interoperability of Ukrainian military educational institutions with NATO educational structures.
The audit will be conducted in several phases with financial support from Lithuania.
How NATO Will Evaluate Ukraine's Military Education
In the initial phase, NATO experts will provide military educational institutions with compliance and assessment criteria that will serve as the basis for the audit and subsequent certification of professional military education courses.
According to the plan, by the end of May, higher military educational institutions and military training units of higher education institutions must prepare self-assessment reports and fill out questionnaires regarding their compliance with NATO's established educational criteria.
From June to September, NATO experts will analyze the prepared reports and questionnaires.
In the fall, a group of NATO experts will visit Ukraine to meet with representatives of the military education system.
The final report from the auditors following the audit is expected to be presented in December 2025.
