This week, a number of Ukrainians in the U.S. under a humanitarian program received incorrect emails stating that their status had been canceled.

According to reports from Reuters, as relayed by "European Truth".

Some Ukrainians legally residing in the U.S. received emails this week informing them that their status was annulled, giving them seven days to leave the country, or else "the federal government will find you".

"If you do not leave the United States immediately, you will become subject to potential law enforcement actions, which may lead to your removal from the United States. DHS is terminating your humanitarian status. Do not attempt to remain in the United States," the message read.

However, on Friday, April 4, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that the email was sent in error and that the program for Ukrainians, established after the Russian invasion in 2022, has not been terminated. The number of Ukrainians who received this email remains unknown.

On the same day, the Department of Homeland Security sent out a follow-up email clarifying that the previous order was erroneous and that "the terms of your humanitarian status remain unchanged at this time".

It is worth noting that in January, following the inauguration of President Donald Trump, officials from the Department of Homeland Security ordered a halt to several programs that allowed migrants to temporarily settle in the United States, including a key initiative that enabled entry for Ukrainians.
