In the Donetsk region, Russian troops have captured strategic heights in the areas of Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk, significantly complicating the defense efforts of Ukrainian forces, as stated by Volodymyr Polovyi, head of communications for the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Airborne Forces, during a telethon.

He mentioned that the enemy is actively deploying its units, groups, and pilots in these areas, and by controlling the heights, they are able to establish observation devices, relays, and cameras, effectively blocking access routes to Ukrainian positions. This enables the Russians to set up command posts in concrete buildings in the city.

Polovyi emphasized that there is no complete control over the cities by the Russians: Ukrainian observation and fire positions remain in the northern parts of Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk. At the same time, ground logistics in these areas are described as "extremely complicated".

According to him, supply and rotations mostly occur via air routes, and the use of robotic complexes is only feasible under extremely poor weather conditions. The planning of rotations is also tied to periods of fog, rain, and low visibility, as well as to the enemy's infiltration actions.

Earlier, the Ukrainian command reported that the defense forces hold the northern part of Pokrovsk and are resisting Russian advances in Myrnohrad. However, throughout January, there were reports of increased pressure from the occupiers, attempts to block logistics, and intense fighting, particularly in the central areas of Myrnohrad. Analysts note that the battles for these cities remain extremely challenging.

As of February 1, the Institute for the Study of War reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had advanced in northern Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, while the Russians intensified attacks in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole directions.
