This morning, several Ukrainian electric substations, essential for nuclear safety, were damaged due to Russian strikes. The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant has completely lost external power supply.
This was reported on Tuesday on the IAEA's official social media page.
"According to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, several Ukrainian electric substations vital for nuclear safety were affected by extensive military activity this morning. The Chernobyl NPP has lost all external power supply, and transmission lines connecting other nuclear power plants have also been damaged," the statement reads.
Grossi stated that the IAEA is "actively monitoring the situation to assess the impact on nuclear safety."
The day before, Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Energy, Denis Shmyhal, informed the IAEA Director General about the preparation of another large-scale attack by Russians on the energy infrastructure, which could target facilities and networks serving nuclear power plants.
