Ukrainian Air Defense's Success Against Recent Attacks

An overview of the actions taken by Ukraine's air defense during a recent attack, resulting in the destruction of numerous enemy drones and missiles.

The Ukrainian air defense successfully neutralized 226 drones, eight "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, and 10 "Kalibr" cruise missiles. This was reported by the Air Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces via their Telegram channel.
At 7:30 PM on January 8, Russian forces launched a combined strike on critical infrastructure targets in Ukraine using drones and missiles.
The main focus of the attack was the Kyiv region.
Overall, the radar troops of the Air Forces detected and tracked 278 aerial threats — 36 missiles and 242 drones:

  • 242 strike drones of the Shahed type, "Gerbera" (other types of drones) from directions: Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), Chauda, Hvardiske (temporarily occupied Crimea), and temporarily occupied Donetsk. About 150 of them are Shahed drones;
  • 13 ballistic missiles "Iskander-M" / S-400 (from Bryansk region);
  • 22 cruise missiles "Kalibr" (from the Black Sea area);
  • one medium-range ballistic missile (from Kapustin Yar range, Astrakhan region).

The air strike was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
As of 9:00 AM on January 9, preliminary data indicates that air defense shot down or suppressed 244 aerial targets:

  • 226 drones;
  • eight ballistic missiles "Iskander-M" / S-400;
  • 10 cruise missiles "Kalibr".

Hits from 18 missiles and 16 strike drones were recorded at 19 locations.
