Air Defense Updates: Countering Drone and Missile Attacks

Latest updates on air attacks in Ukraine: air defense results and ongoing threats.

The air defense forces of Ukraine successfully neutralized 420 drones and missiles launched by the Russian military during the evening of October 9. The Air Force of Ukraine reported this via Telegram.

According to military sources, from 19:00 on Thursday, October 9, Russian invaders deployed a total of 497 aerial assault tools:

  • 465 drones, approximately 200 of which were Shahed type. Among others was the "Gerbera". Launches were executed from Russian cities including Kursk, Millerovo, Shatalovo, Orel, Shakhty, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk;
  • 2 air-launched ballistic missiles of the X-47M2 "Kinzhal" type, fired from the airspace of the Lipetsk region;
  • 14 ballistic missiles of the Iskander-M/KN-23 type, launched from temporarily occupied Crimea, Rostov, and Bryansk regions;
  • 12 cruise missiles of the Iskander-K type, also from occupied Crimea, Rostov, and Bryansk;
  • 4 guided air-to-surface missiles X-59/69.

The attack was countered by aviation, surface-to-air missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of Ukraine's defense forces.

As of 10:00 on Friday, October 10, air defense had shot down/neutralized 405 enemy drones, including Shahed and "Gerbera", one X-47M2 "Kinzhal" air-launched missile, four Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, nine Iskander-K cruise missiles, and one X-59/69 guided missile.

Additionally, four missiles from the aggressors were lost in locations. None of them reached their targets. The clarification of the crash sites is ongoing. Direct hits from 13 missiles and 60 enemy drones have been recorded in 19 locations, with debris from downed targets noted in seven locations.

The Air Force emphasizes that the attack is ongoing, with several enemy UAVs detected in the skies over Ukraine.
