OpenAI has launched a counter lawsuit against Elon Musk, alleging that his deliberate actions are slowing down the company’s development for personal gain.

"Elon’s ongoing actions against us are merely dishonest tactics aimed at stalling OpenAI’s progress and seizing control of cutting-edge innovations in AI for his own benefit," the lawsuit states.

In 2024, Musk petitioned the court to prohibit OpenAI from transitioning to a commercial model, intending to force the company to "return to its mission of developing AI for the benefit of humanity." The court rejected Musk’s request for an injunction but allowed for an expedited hearing on the merits.

Following this, Musk proposed to acquire OpenAI for $97.4 billion, but the board of directors unanimously rejected his offer.

"Musk’s ongoing attacks on OpenAI, culminating in a recent fraudulent acquisition proposal intended to undermine OpenAI’s future, must cease. He should be prohibited from further unlawful and unfair actions and held accountable for the damages he has already caused," OpenAI states in the lawsuit.
