Microsoft has officially unveiled its latest technology - Mixed Reality Link. This innovative system transforms the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets into virtual monitors for Windows 11. Previously, this feature was exclusive to beta testers, but it is now gradually being rolled out to all users.
Mixed Reality Link creates a virtual workspace where users can view multiple high-quality displays that emulate traditional monitors. To utilize this functionality, the Mixed Reality Link client must be installed on a Windows 11 computer, and the Meta Quest headset needs to be connected.
The service also supports Microsoft’s cloud solutions, including Windows 365 Cloud PC, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Dev Box. This enables users to access a virtual desktop even without a powerful local computer, as the processing is handled in the cloud.
The functionality is reminiscent of Apple Vision Pro, but at a significantly lower price point. The base Meta Quest 3S headset is priced around $300, whereas the Vision Pro starts at $3,500.
Meta is actively investing in AR/VR technologies. Recently, the company introduced new smart glasses, the Ray-Ban Display, featuring an integrated screen, along with the latest generation of Ray-Ban Meta.
