Soon, the "Diia" app will introduce a new service – the "Firearm Permit". The beta testing phase is nearing completion, as reported by Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
Source: Ukrinform referencing the minister's statement at the briefing "Digital Opportunities for Veterans".
Fedorov's direct quote: "I want to announce a service in Diia that will be popular not only among veterans but among all Ukrainians. This is the 'Firearm Permit'. I hope that we will launch it this month as it is currently in beta testing."
Details: According to him, this will be a comprehensive service. It will allow users to apply for permits for storage, carrying, and purchasing firearms through the app, and they will also receive the necessary documentation to present when needed.
"There will be no need to carry any other permits. Just the document in Diia, a QR code, as usual," the minister stated, adding that the service will be available to all Ukrainians.
It is worth noting that shortly after the launch of the Unified Weapon Register in 2023, it was reported that firearm permits could already be obtained through Diia.
The "Obtaining a Firearm Permit" page has been active in Diia since 2023 and is still operational.
"Ukrainian Truth" has sent a request to the Ministry of Digital Transformation for comments on the old and new services related to firearm permits.
Background:
- On June 23, 2023, the Unified Weapon Register was launched in Ukraine. Ukrainians gained the ability to obtain firearm permits without visiting the National Police by submitting documents through the "Unified Citizen's Window" or at firearms shops. It was also reported that permits could be obtained through Diia.
- According to the National Police, as of the end of October 2024, over 1.4 million firearms had been registered in Ukraine.
- In August 2024, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Bohdan Drapiatyi stated that Ukrainians might possess between 2 to 5 million unregistered firearms.
