Microsoft has introduced an innovative voice assistant tailored for healthcare practitioners, combining the functionalities of Dragon Medical One with the DAX Copilot ambient listening technology.

This new tool, named "Dragon Copilot", aims to assist physicians in swiftly accessing essential information and automatically generating clinical notes, referrals, and other documents. This initiative is part of Microsoft’s strategy to alleviate administrative burdens, which significantly contribute to burnout in the medical field.

Research from Google Cloud indicates that healthcare providers spend up to 28 hours weekly on administrative tasks, including paperwork. Dragon Copilot is designed to allow doctors to focus more on patient care while reducing time spent on computers and documentation. The technology will enable users to edit notes using natural language and ask questions about diagnoses or treatments.

In 2021, Microsoft acquired Nuance Communications, which develops these technologies, positioning itself as a key player in the medical record automation market. DAX Copilot has already been utilized in over 3 million patient visits, and with an upgraded interface, Microsoft hopes to distinguish itself from competitors like Abridge and Suki.

Dragon Copilot will be accessible via mobile app, web browser, or desktop. Physicians will be able to leverage this technology for automatic clinical note creation and efficient processing of medical data. The system is set to be available in the US and Canada in May 2025, with plans for expansion to other countries.
