According to OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman, artificial intelligence may render some jobs obsolete, particularly in customer support roles.
In an interview with podcaster Tucker Carlson, he noted that AI could enhance the capabilities of programmers and potentially increase their salaries.
Altman emphasized that in certain fields, such as nursing, human interaction is still essential.
He also mentioned that the demand for software has outstripped supply, and while he refrained from making precise predictions for the next 5-10 years, he believes that the disappearance of some professions will be accompanied by the emergence of new ones. He recalled that every 75 years, half of all jobs undergo transformation.
During the conversation with Tucker Carlson, Altman touched on topics like ethics, privacy, and military applications of ChatGPT. When asked about the acceptability of using AI for life-and-death decisions, he compared AI to dual-use technologies and stressed the importance of understanding the consequences. He reported that military personnel are already using ChatGPT for advice.
As previously reported, OpenAI recently conducted a study revealing who uses ChatGPT and how. It showed that in the past year, the gender ratio of users has become equal, and the use of AI for everyday tasks has increased.
Notably, one key finding of the study is that by June 2025, the proportion of non-work-related messages increased to 73% compared to 53% the previous year. 75% of conversations with ChatGPT fall into three main categories: practical guidance, information seeking, and writing. Users most frequently seek practical advice, education, and creative ideas.
