OpenAI is considering the implementation of a new 'Login via ChatGPT' feature in external applications, which could significantly expand its influence in the digital services sector.
Currently, OpenAI is assessing developer interest in this initiative, which would allow users to log into various services using their ChatGPT account. This may serve as a competitive alternative to similar solutions offered by Apple, Google, and Microsoft, which already provide quick access to third-party applications.
The popularity of ChatGPT is rapidly increasing, boasting around 600 million active users each month. OpenAI aims to leverage this success to broaden its reach in online shopping, social media, and other services.
Previously, the company launched a beta version of the login feature via ChatGPT for developers within Codex CLI – an AI-powered programming tool. Developers can connect their ChatGPT Free, Plus, or Pro accounts to the API. Plus and Pro tier users are offered bonuses in the form of API credits.
Currently, the company is actively gathering data on potential partners, inquiring about developers' audience sizes and existing monetization models. It remains unclear when this feature will be available to the general public.
