16-year-old fencer Alina Dmytruk from Lviv has successfully advanced to the semifinals of the cadet world fencing championships taking place in China.
In the quarterfinals, she triumphed over South Korean fencer Lee Rae Na with a score of 15:8, ensuring at least a bronze medal for herself.
In the match for a spot in the finals, Alina will face Hong Kong's Wu Haidi, who previously defeated another Ukrainian fencer, championship debutant Valeria Bilous-Hrydiak, in a tense battle (15:14).
Earlier, the first medal for Ukraine at the championships was secured by Maksym Perchuk, who won a bronze medal.
