The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially approved the program for the 2028 Summer Olympics, set to take place in Los Angeles, California.

This information was shared by the IOC's press service.

The press release highlights that gender equality was a crucial aspect in the development of the 2028 Olympic program.

Despite having more medal events for men (165 compared to 161), the number of female participants will surpass that of males for the first time: 5333 women to 5167 men.

This achievement is largely due to the expansion of women’s team sports, ensuring equal representation alongside men.

For instance, the number of teams in the men’s football tournament has been reduced from 16 to 12, while the women's teams have increased from 12 to 16. Additionally, six sports will feature new mixed events for both genders. Overall, there will be 22 more medal events in 2028 compared to the previous Olympics in Paris.
