The President of the Karate Federation of Ukraine, Ivan Dutschak, discussed the future of karate in the upcoming Olympic Games in 2032.
This information was shared by journalist Stanislav Lysak ahead of the World Championship 2025.
"We are working closely with available IOC officials to ensure that karate returns to the Olympic program for the Brisbane Games in 2032. We are making other efforts, but not everything can be publicly discussed," Dutschak explained.
He also highlighted changes in international karate aimed at making it more appealing for television audiences.
"In the past, there were categories with over 100 participants. Now, the global federation is optimizing this, issuing licenses, and only 32 athletes will compete at the World Championship. This is to enhance TV interest.
In Ukraine, we are implementing various media projects, such as newly launched karate podcasts. Other initiatives involve communication with various IOC representatives, as everything relies on the subjective opinions of those who vote.
Additionally, much will depend on the local authorities in Brisbane and who they would like to see participate. The global federation is doing a lot, and we are assisting as much as we can," Dutschak concluded.
It is important to note that the Olympic Games in Brisbane will take place from July 23 to August 8, 2032, and discussions are ongoing about including karate in the program.
