Ukraine's top-ranked player Elina Svitolina (13) will not compete in the WTA 1000 tournament taking place in Beijing from September 24 to October 5.
According to reports from Ukrainian Tennis, the reason for her withdrawal is a thigh injury.
Svitolina was set to begin her campaign in the second round. Her spot in the main draw will be taken by Polish player Magda Linette (38), who has been given the 33rd seed.
The last time the 31-year-old played in Beijing was in 2019, reaching the quarter-finals.
Currently, Svitolina remains listed to participate in the WTA 1000 event in Wuhan, scheduled for October 6 to 12.
Thus, three Ukrainian players will compete in Beijing: Marta Kostyuk (28), Dayana Yastremska (31), and Yulia Starodubtseva (86). The players have already learned their first opponents in the main draw.
