Marta Kostyuk (27) lost in the opening round of the WTA 500 tournament held in Washington to British player Emma Raducanu (46).

The match lasted 1 hour and 56 minutes and ended with a score of 7:6(4), 6:4.

When Kostyuk struggles, her level of play resembles a sine wave. In the first half of the opening set, Marta had break points on every serve from Raducanu, but converted only one, immediately surrendering her own serve. She then had to fight for her own games.

Kostyuk managed to push the match to a tiebreak, where she quickly found herself down 0:4, but managed to equalize, only to lose three consecutive points afterward.

In the second set, the British player led 3:0 and 4:1, but Marta managed to tie it up at four. However, another dip in her performance led to a 4:6 loss in the match.

Throughout the match, Kostyuk recorded 3 aces, 7 double faults, and 2 breaks. Her opponent had 2 aces, 4 faults on serve, and 3 breaks.
