Today in Kyiv, at the Central Railway Station, a grand welcome took place for the Ukrainian national fencing team, which returned from the European Championship held from June 14 to June 19 in Italian Genoa. This was reported by Ukrzaliznytsia.
Ukrainian athletes achieved three medals — two gold and one silver — finishing the tournament in third place in the overall medal standings.
The first medal for Ukraine was brought by fencer Roman Svichkar, who earned individual gold — the first for Ukraine in men's foil at the continental level in 31 years. The silver in the individual competition was claimed by sabre fencer Alina Komashchuk, for whom this city marked her debut in individual competitions at the European Championships after numerous team honors.
The highlight of the event was the historic gold in the women's team foil: Olena Kryvytska, Vlada Kharkova, Inna Brovko, and Anna Maksymenko secured Ukraine's first team victory in this discipline at the European Championships.
As the fencers were greeted on the platform, fans, relatives, and sports officials expressed their pride and emotions. These achievements not only add a new glorious chapter to the history of Ukrainian sports but also provide hope and inspiration in these challenging times for the country.
Moreover, the railway workers presented the athletes with sets of their famous Combat Tea. It can be purchased on trains for 20 UAH, of which 5.5 UAH goes towards the purchase of FPV drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Combat tea with bergamot or reconnaissance tea with Crimean herbs can be bought online (through the app, chat-bot, or on the Ukrzaliznytsia website), or directly on the train (except for “Intercity+”).
