Ukrainian tennis player Anastasia Sobelova has achieved a significant milestone by qualifying for the main draw of Roland Garros for the first time in her career. This accomplishment came after her victory in the qualifying final against British player Francesca Jones.
Three Ukrainian players participated in the women's singles qualifying: Yuliya Starodubtseva, Daria Snihur, and Anastasia Sobelova. Snihur was the first to exit the competition in the second round, while Starodubtseva and Sobelova advanced to the final. Although Yuliya had a chance to qualify again, Anastasia was making her debut at the tournament.
Only Anastasia managed to qualify for the main draw of the second Grand Slam of the 2025 season, defeating Francesca Jones in three sets, while Starodubtseva lost to Czech player Sara Bejlek.

What does Sobelova’s entry into the main draw of Roland Garros mean?
- The 21-year-old Sobelova will compete in the main draw of a major tennis tournament for the first time. At this level, she had previously only participated in qualifying rounds, often exiting in the first round.
- Last time Sobelova won three matches in a row at the WTA level was in August 2024 at the Challenger in Barranquilla, where she reached the semifinals before losing to Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska.
