Doping Scandal in Athletics: Beh-Romanchuk Faces Ban
On May 14, AIU announced the potential suspension of Ukrainian athlete Beh-Romanchuk following a positive testosterone test, which is classified as a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency. The testing occurred during both competition and non-competition periods.
AIU's statement indicated that the athlete violated regulations regarding the presence of banned substances in the body, leading to severe penalties. According to anti-doping rules, this can result in a suspension of up to four years.
What Consequences Could Beh-Romanchuk Face for Doping?
- 4-year suspension — if it is proven that the athlete intentionally used doping.
- 2-year suspension — if it can be shown that the substance entered the body unintentionally.
- 1-2 year suspension — if the substance was ingested through contaminated food.
- Cancellation of suspension — if it is determined that the athlete was not at fault and the banned substance entered the body during treatment or due to medical negligence.
In light of the positive doping test, court hearings regarding Beh-Romanchuk's case are anticipated. The athlete retains the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
