The Ukrainian athlete Alexandra Sholohova has been crowned the European Champion in karate.

In the final match, the 24-year-old karateka defeated her opponent from Latvia, Beata Girvica, in the under 61 kg category.

This marks Sholohova's first continental gold medal and the first for Ukraine at Euro-2025.

Previously, Elina Selyemeneva and Rizvan Talibov secured bronze medals, while Valerii Chobotar took home silver.

It’s important to note that the European Championship serves as a qualifying event for the World Championship, which will take place in November in Cairo. Champions, runners-up, and bronze medalists with outstanding results will qualify for the world event.

The best result for the Ukrainian team in European Championships was third place in 2023 in Guadalajara (Spain) with 4 medals: 3 golds (Anzhelika Terliuga, Andrii Zaplitnyi, and the men's team) and 1 silver (Anita Seryohina).
