The debut film 'Urchin' by Harris Dickinson, starring Ukrainian actress Karina Khymchuk, has been chosen for the main program of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
This news was announced by film critic Sonya Vseulyubska during a press conference at the festival.
The story revolves around a homeless man named Mike in London, who finds himself trapped in self-destruction while trying to change his life. The film is described as 'absurd and unrefined' and is characterized as a 'tale of strange patterns that constantly pull us back.'
Alongside Karina Khymchuk, the film features actors Frank Dillane, Megan Northam, Amr Waked, and Shauna Marie.
'Urchin' is part of the Un Certain Regard competition section at Cannes, competing alongside works from notable filmmakers like Morad Mostafa and Scarlett Johansson.
Karina Khymchuk is a Ukrainian actress known for her role in 'Rap Kings' and for her lead role in 'Do You Love Me?' by Toni Noivrov, for which she received a special mention at the 14th Odesa International Film Festival.
Additionally, she appeared in the Dutch series 'Ferry.'
'Urchin' marks the directorial debut of Harris Dickinson, who is also recognized for his collaboration with Nicole Kidman in the film 'Babygirl.'
