Kyiv will implement free hot meals for elementary school students in public educational institutions. This decision was supported by the Kyiv City Council as part of the program «Education of Kyiv. 2024-2025», as reported by Deputy Head of the KCSA Valentyn Mondryivskyi.
He noted that according to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolution No. 1145 dated October 4, 2024, the state subsidy covers up to 70% of the catering costs. The capital has chosen a catering model, which requires additional funding from the city budget.
«This decision will provide hot meals for over 65,000 elementary school students. For this purpose, 35.1 million UAH has been allocated from the city budget. Kyiv is the first city in Ukraine to implement school meal reform, and we aim to maintain high service quality. A breakfast costing 50 UAH from the state does not meet our standards. We have overcome bureaucracy to ensure children receive quality meals in compliance with government regulations,» said Valentyn Mondryivskyi.
The average cost of hot meals for students in Kyiv is 74 UAH. Overall, nearly 86,000 students will benefit from this service, including more than 20,000 students from disadvantaged categories who already receive free meals.
