Andrius Kubilius, the European Commissioner for Defense, stated that denying Ukraine NATO membership will only facilitate Russia's planning of future aggressive actions.
This was conveyed by Kubilius on social media platform X, as reported by "European Truth".
The Commissioner pointed out that Russia insists on denying Ukraine NATO membership not because it fears an attack from the Alliance.
"Russia fears that NATO will protect Ukraine from its next aggression. A 'no NATO' stance for Ukraine makes it easier for Russia to plan its next aggression," Kubilius emphasized.
Recently, Donald Trump reiterated his previous claims that Ukraine allegedly provoked the war with its desire to join NATO.
Earlier, media reported that the Trump administration presented Ukraine with a one-page document in Paris, referred to as the "final proposal" for a peace settlement. Among other points, the U.S. was willing to recognize Russia's control over Ukrainian Crimea and ease sanctions against Moscow.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on April 24 that the U.S. offered its strategy regarding Ukrainian territories during negotiations in London, but according to him, after the U.S. proposal, "another paper appeared".
