The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, officially welcomed the new ambassador of Portugal, marking the start of his diplomatic mission in Ukraine.

According to "European Truth", this information was released by the Office of the President.

On Thursday, April 10, Zelensky received the credentials from the new Portuguese ambassador to Ukraine, Luís Manuel Ribeiro Cabral, who replaces António Alves Machado. Previously, he served as ambassador to Poland.

Zelensky expressed gratitude to the ambassador for Portugal's ongoing support and the temporary protection offered to Ukrainians.

"The President invited Portugal to join humanitarian initiatives and to continue cooperation in areas that ensure security guarantees for Ukraine and the entire European continent", – the statement noted.

It is worth recalling that on April 7, Zelensky signed several decrees regarding the appointment of ambassadors of Ukraine. Notably, the position of ambassador to Norway has been filled for the first time since 2022. The ambassador to Finland has also changed.

Former Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin has been appointed ambassador to the Netherlands, while former ambassador to Germany and Brazil Andriy Melnyk has become Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN.
