Victor Ponta, the former Prime Minister of Romania running for president as an independent candidate, announced plans to block the transit of Ukrainian grain through Romania's ports if he wins the election.
Source: Ponta shared his views in an interview with Reuters, as reported by "European Truth".
Details: Ponta emphasized that while he supports aid to Ukraine, including weapon supplies and training for pilots, he opposes the transit of Ukrainian grain.
"In recent years, a policy has been implemented that favors Ukrainian grain in terms of port access, to the detriment of Romanian farmers," – he explained.
In a broader context, Ponta noted that he approves of the current "radical changes" in the U.S. and, if elected, will pursue a "Romania First" policy.
This policy involves supporting Moldova and the Western Balkans' accession to the EU, as well as strategic partnerships with Poland and Turkey, which is a key military power in the Black Sea.
The 52-year-old Victor Ponta, a former left-wing Prime Minister, has shifted towards far-right views. He left office in 2015 following a deadly nightclub fire.
According to public opinion polls, Ponta has a chance to reach the second round of the Romanian presidential elections alongside far-right opposition leader George Simion.
