The heads of the armed forces of France and Britain held discussions with the Ukrainian side to address the needs and tasks of the Ukrainian army, aiming to provide long-term support for its recovery and development during their visit to Kyiv.
This was reported by the press service of the French General Staff, as stated by "European Truth".
On Friday, April 4, the chiefs of the French and British armed forces visited Kyiv, where they met with the leadership of Ukraine.
According to the French General Staff, the purpose of the visit was to discuss the needs and objectives of the Ukrainian army to ensure its long-term support for reconstruction and improvement.
"Strengthening the Ukrainian army is crucial and serves as the first guarantee of the country's security if we want to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine," they stated.
The statement also assured that France and Britain will closely cooperate within the framework of an international coalition to define and develop operations that will deter Russia from launching a new large-scale invasion after peace is restored.
"The dynamics of Franco-British cooperation will continue in future discussions, making an active contribution to the security of the European continent," they added in the statement.
General Thierry Burkhard, Chief of the French General Staff, commented on the visit, stating that the goal of the meetings was to provide decisive support to the Ukrainian army, enabling it to continue its fight.
On March 27, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that a Franco-British mission would be sent to Ukraine to strengthen the Ukrainian army. He also mentioned that work is ongoing regarding the potential deployment of so-called "guaranteeing forces" to Ukraine.
On March 28, Zelensky announced a meeting at the level of general staffs in Ukraine, dedicated to the future deployment of military contingents.
The president stated that this would be the "first in-depth meeting," where there would be "some clarifications and details".
