Initiated by the Ministry of Energy, alongside the Ministry of Natural Resources of Canada and the European Commission, an urgent meeting of the Support Group for Ukraine's energy sector was convened in response to the recent nighttime strikes by Russia. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.
Over 100 representatives from various countries and international organizations, including the USA, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the European Commission, UNDP, EIB, EBRD, and the Energy Community Secretariat, participated in the meeting. The Ukrainian side provided detailed information to international partners about the consequences of the attacks, particularly focusing on oil and gas infrastructure.
Partners were also informed about the immediate needs for the rapid restoration of damaged facilities, which primarily include physical and air defense systems, as well as the need for additional gas supplies and energy equipment for repairs and recovery.
Throughout more than three and a half years of full-scale armed aggression from Russia, international partners have provided significant support to Ukraine's energy sector. Thanks to the equipment and financial assistance received, Ukraine has successfully navigated three previous wartime winters and has been able to carry out necessary repairs promptly.
As Russian attacks intensify, the need for mobilizing support from international partners using proven effective tools that can provide assistance in the shortest possible time is increasing.
Representatives of G7+ assured Ukraine of continued support and agreed to hold an additional meeting soon to coordinate further joint actions.
It should be noted that today, October 4, due to enemy strikes, the city of Shostka was left without power, and 8 individuals were hospitalized.
