Mariana Betza, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has commenced her trip to New York to engage in debates at the UN General Assembly regarding the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, scheduled for September 4.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“During her visit to the UN headquarters, Mariana Betza will address the General Assembly debates and continue efforts to strengthen the international coalition supporting Ukraine,” the statement noted.
The Foreign Ministry informed that on September 3, Betza met with the President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Philemone Yang, and the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, Rosemary DiCarlo.
Additionally, the diplomat held a joint briefing for the permanent representatives of EU member states at the UN and had individual meetings with ambassadors from Canada, South Korea, Lithuania, Estonia, South Africa, and Liberia.
“The discussions focused on the restoration of a comprehensive, fair, and sustainable peace amid Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine. Participants also addressed preparations for the High-Level Week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, which will take place at the end of September, featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other world leaders,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
The UN General Assembly will hold a meeting on Thursday, September 4, to discuss the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The meeting will be conducted in a debate format without decision-making and will start at 10:00 AM (5:00 PM Kyiv time), lasting throughout the day. Since 2018, UN member states have included the issue of “The Situation in the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine” in the General Assembly's agenda annually.
