On Monday, Lars Klingbeil, the Vice Chancellor of Germany, arrived in Kyiv for an unannounced visit.

This was reported by Reuters.

Upon arrival, he stated that Vladimir Putin must understand that Germany's support for Ukraine will not wane.

"Putin should not be under the illusion that Germany’s support for Ukraine could fade," said Klingbeil, leader of the Social Democratic Party, which is the junior partner in Chancellor Friedrich Merz's coalition government.

"On the contrary: we remain the second-largest partner of Ukraine worldwide and the largest in Europe. Ukraine can continue to rely on Germany," Klingbeil added.

He stated that Ukraine should be included in peace negotiations, and for lasting peace, a ceasefire and reliable security guarantees are necessary.

"To this end, we are closely coordinating our actions at the international level," he said.

It is worth noting that Klingbeil previously did not support Bavarian Premier Markus Söder's call to cut social benefits for all refugees from Ukraine.

Klingbeil also justified the significant increase in Germany's military spending, stating that it is essential to counter the threat posed by the Russian ruler.
