The European Union Commissioner for Defense, Andrius Kubilius, stated that the EU has the potential to significantly enhance military support for Ukraine by sourcing arms directly from domestic producers.

According to him, the U.S. and EU allocate about 40 billion euros annually in military aid to Ukraine. However, these funds could be utilized more effectively by investing in Ukrainian arms manufacturers.
"If Trump fails to convince Putin to establish peace, we could quickly present stronger arguments for peace by significantly increasing our military support for Ukraine," Kubilius remarked.
He noted that the cost of arms produced in Ukraine is approximately half that of similar weapons from the EU or the U.S., allowing for a potential doubling of the arms supplied to Ukraine without additional expenditure.
"The real cost of our support could rise to 80 billion euros," he concluded.
Kubilius also highlighted the new security loans from the EU that enable member states to finance military purchases for Ukraine. He believes this paves the way for implementing the "peace through strength" strategy.
"Security loans are strength for Ukraine!", he emphasized.
It is noteworthy that Ukrainian officials have repeatedly urged European governments to adopt the so-called "Danish model" of aid to Ukraine, which involves funding military support through targeted funds with a focus on purchasing arms directly from Ukraine. This initiative has been supported by the Netherlands, Norway, and the Czech Republic. The EU considers this framework as the basis for a long-term military aid strategy for Ukraine.
