The President of Ukraine has enacted a new legislation aimed at encouraging volunteer activities among students. A key point of this legislation allows for volunteer work to be credited as practical experience in educational institutions.
The document number 11159 was introduced for consideration back in April 2024. The authors emphasized that these changes are necessary to organize volunteerism in Ukraine and make it part of a systematic approach.
The explanatory note indicates that volunteerism provides young people with opportunities to develop their skills and gain practical experience.
According to Article 434 of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union, one of the tasks for Ukraine is to support youth in acquiring knowledge and skills outside the educational system, particularly through volunteer activities.
Volunteerism offers youth the chance to enhance their skills and obtain practical experience, which is beneficial not only for further education but also for entering the job market.
Now, volunteer experience can influence admission to educational institutions, as it can be included in the candidate's motivation letter. Copies of documents verifying this experience can also be attached.
The law further allows for the time spent in volunteer activities to be counted towards practical experience, provided it aligns with the educational program of the institution.
Volunteers will be issued a certificate confirming their participation in volunteer activities from public, charitable, or volunteer organizations.
