On April 16, an unknown individual attacked journalist and producer Yuriy Makarov in the capital of Ukraine, inflicting a knife wound.

This information was confirmed by Mykola Chernotytskyi, head of the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine.

Details of the Attack on Yuriy Makarov

According to reports, the attack took place late in the evening on April 16.

The journalist was urgently hospitalized in serious condition, although currently, there is no threat to his life.

The Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv announced that a criminal case has been opened regarding the assault on the journalist in the Solomyanskyi district.

The investigation is initiated under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional serious bodily harm.

Preliminary information indicates that near one of the residential complexes, the assailant approached the victim, unexpectedly struck him with a knife, and fled the scene.

The victim turned out to be a 69-year-old Kyiv resident, an employee of a national media organization. An investigative team was dispatched to the scene.

The police have seized the weapon used in the crime and other evidence. Measures are currently being taken to apprehend the assailant.
